Pond Netting

Choosing the Best Netting for Your Pond

At Cool Ponds, we like two specific types of pond netting -- Economy Netting and Heavy Duty Netting.

The Economy Netting is just that... a little less expensive.  It has quarter inch openings and is polypropylene.  What we like is that it comes in a variety of sizes and holds up well for a few seasons.  The holes are small enough that not much gets through.

Heavy Duty Netting will last longer and is much easier to gather up and store.  The holes in the Heavy Duty Netting are 1/2 inch so small leaves and bits can get through however.  Heavy Duty Netting is also polypropylene but it is woven and much softer which makes it much more pliable and easier to remove leaves from it.

Remember, whichever netting you choose, it should be hooped or domed over to keep leaves from weighing it down.  Never lay a net flat over a pond when leaves are falling.

Also grab some of our galvanized net staples.  They will keep your net down through the season.  Pro tip: leave the staple out of the ground a inch or two to make it easier to remove when the time comes.  We like to remove our nets after Thanksgiving or the first week of December.

Be sure to watch our video below of how we net our ponds.
